Martin Scorsese won a lifetime achievement award from the Golden Globes last week, and we’ve pick what we think is his 10 best films and put them in a list. If you haven’t seen these films, and claim to like movies, you have to go out right now and rent or buy or whatever you need to do to see them. They are all must see in our book.

10. Kundun (1997)
A great film far ahead of it’s time. Follows the life of Tibet’s 14th Dali Lama, and is an amazing movie.

 

9. The Departed (2006)
A gritty film that you must see.

 

8. The King of Comedy (1982)
Chilling and funny at the same time. It is a film that has oddities that you can’t look away from.

7. The Last Temptation of Christ (1988)
A masterpiece that you must see. It is one of the rare and very difficult films to make.

6. Gangs of New York (2002)
A look at the Gangs in New York in the 1800s, and an amazing film.

5. The Aviator
A gripping look at Howard Hughes. The movie soars to the highs and lows of Howard’s life. It is a must see film.

4. The Color of Money (1986)
A gritty and realistic story of a pool player, with amazing performances.

3. Raging Bull (1980)
A classic. De Niro is outstanding, and the film is impactful and a look at the life of Jake La Motta.

2. Taxi Driver (1976)
One of the best movies ever filmed. It’s a look at a screwed up vigilantly in New York city. De Niro again made a classic character in this film, one that pop culture cannot let go of. Scorsese rewrote how films should be made with this film. Dark, gritty, real and terrifying.

1. Goodfellas (1990)
One of the best directed films of all time. It should go down in history as the film that showed directors how to direct a movie. It has the added advantage of being an amazing and true story. The lessons of mob life blasts through to the film with amazing performances.
