Top 10 End of the World Movies

Here is our list of end of the world movies. There have been many made, but we picked what we felt were the 10 best. Take a look and see what the best end of the world films are.

10. 28 Days Later (2002)
A good movie that could have been better. Waking up in the middle of the end of the world is a bad thing. Really the movie is the weak link on our list, but it is worth seeing.

9. Night of the Comet (1984)
One of the only end of the world movies that makes the end of the world fun for teenagers. It’s a cult classic, and mainly on our list for having a different take on the end of the world.

8. Miracle Mile (1988)
The movie is more of a real life take on what would happen if the end of the world was coming. It is a simple movie. There isn’t a lot of special effects, and you won’t see too many buildings blowing up. What it lacks in FX is makes up for in drama and suspense. It is a very intense film and worth seeing.

7. Children of Men (2006)
An intense and great film.

6. The Day After (1983)

The Day After was a 1983 ABC television movie that rocked the country. The movie came about 20 years after the Cuban Missile Crisis. People were just getting used to the fact that they could all be killed in a nuclear war. They weren’t hiding under their desks in schools any more. This movie got it all going again. It came at a time when people only had 4 tv channels and one of those channels was PBS. So if you were watching ABC that night, you got to see the USA blown up. The movie is pretty well done, for being a tv movie made on a low budget. Its impact though is unsurpassed when it comes to blowing up the world and getting people worried about it.

5. The Road Warrior (1981)
One of the best end of the world films ever made. It is dark and gritty. The movie has some very intense scenes, but it does very well to show insanity and crime in the world after civilization. It is the second movie in the series, but the vision here is fully realized.

4. The Terminator (1984)
The movie takes place before the end of the world, but it does show some scenes on what it will be like if the leader of the resistance doesn’t make it. The Terminator became a phenomena, but it all started with this very awesome film.

3. Dawn of the Dead Remake (2004)
This is a remake of the 1978 film of the same name. The remake (rare to say this about any film) is better than the original. It is better is every way. It is a must see for those of you who enjoy movies about the end of the world. Those of you who are zombie fans have to see this movie to get your membership card.

2. I am Legend (2007)
Hollywood tried 3 times to get this movie right. The made it once with Vincent Price (The Last Man on Earth) again with Charlton Heston (The Omega Man) and lastly with Will Smith. They got it right the last time, and it is a very tight film that is even realistic in some moments.

1. 12 monkeys (1995)
Is a mind twisting film about the end of everything. It’s future and past, your crazy, he’s crazy. Bruce Willis does and outstanding job. It is stylistic, realistic and engrossing. Brad Pitt needs a nod here for doing an awesome job as well. It is a must see, and if you only see one end of the world film, start with this one.
